Welcome to the new RTL-SDR Blog forums!

On these forums, you can ask questions about RTL-SDR, other software-defined radios, signal identification, or anything related to SDRs and the radio hobby in general.

Why are we changing forum providers?

We have decided to retire the old phpBB-based forums at www.rtl-sdr.com/forum due to excessive spam, which is very time-consuming and almost impossible to fight. Ever since the ChatGPT age started, we’ve been seeing increasingly sophisticated AI generated posts that sound very legitmate. The spammers goal is to start a discussion with real users, then later replace the original post with spam links, or later reply with a spam link. This is frustrating as it takes a lot of moderation time, and wastes legitimate users’ time too. We’ve explored numerous methods to reduce spam on the phpBB forums, but nothing worked as it seems that all captchas available for us to use on phpBB have been defeated by AI.

This discourse forum, being a paid forum should hopefully have much improved spam detection.

No idea but this forum is really not user friendly and pain in the ass when we need to search & read it !

Ok phpBB is perhaps no more accurate for the security but this forum is really crap !

Hmm Discourse is supposed to be significantly better at user friendlyness and search compared to phpBB, according to most people. What are your specifc concerns with the platform?

I have some issues with the new forum – my main machine is running Win 8.1 and the forum SW wants upgraded browsers, and I’m already running the latest ones for it. Is there a way to relax those requirements?

Here’s what I see from Win 8.1:

Unfortunately this may be one downside, Discourse will most likely require an up to date system. We don’t have any control over the technologies used by the Discourse software.

One year later … and result is almost all people left the forum …

No activity …. Well done !
